Maine Backfield Botanica has been studying plants rooted in the boreal forests of Beals Island, Maine for over a decade. This island is situated in the northeast, cold Atlantic Ocean.
The plants have adapted to an extreme climate, poor soils, and long winters. Such harsh environments produce higher concentrations of protective compounds to survive.
